Tiled Stove Leaks: What to Check After Years of Use

Vitcas materials for sealing and minor repairs of heating appliances

In a tiled stove, it is worth separating the door problem from the problem of joints and internal channels. A worn stove rope can be recognized upon inspection, but fresh material on the external joint does not confirm the tightness of the entire stove. If smoke appears in the room or the operation of the appliance changes, the cause needs to be assessed before further burning.

Doors: gasket and closing mechanism

With the stove completely cold, inspect the stove rope, frame, hinges, and latch. Look for abrasions, detached ends, and areas where the gasket is permanently flattened. Pay attention to whether the door closes evenly without using excessive force.

Vitcas stove rope can be used to restore proper door sealing. Determine the required cross-section, diameter, and weave for the specific door set. stove rope adhesive RA holds the material on the intended substrate; it does not repair a warped frame or a damaged latch.

Joints and connections: record the extent of damage.

Inspect the joints at corners, door frames, and the connection of the stove to the flue. Take pictures of areas where material is missing or has changed appearance. Note whether the same mark reappears after subsequent heating cycles.

A gap in the finish may have a different meaning than damage to the flue connection. Without understanding the construction, it is impossible to determine the scope of repairs based solely on the colour of the grout. Do not accidentally force a randomly chosen material into an unknown interior of the connection.

What to convey to the stove specialist or chimney sweep?

Prepare photos of the entire stove and details, a description of the fuel, and the date of the last inspection. If you know the history of modifications, add which parts were replaced. It is also important to note whether the change occurred suddenly or gradually over several seasons.

The age of the device alone does not determine the need for dismantling. The scope of work is determined by the condition of the construction and the flue system. Home inspections help collect data but do not replace checking the ducts and connections by someone familiar with the stove's construction.
