The finish of the garden oven casing must work with the substrate and outdoor conditions. Merely stating heat-resistant plaster does not indicate whether it refers to a thicker base layer or a thin topcoat. Before purchasing, outline both functions and the protection of the finished surface.
Check what the layer will be applied to
Vitcas Fireplace Render is a material for appropriate brick and masonry substrates. The manufacturer indicates indoor as well as outdoor applications. However, the substrate should meet the product requirements; a layer on unstable or insufficiently dried masonry does not become durable by the mere choice of a refractory material.
If the finish is above insulation, a planned system of support and holding is required. Do not transfer brick plastering instructions directly onto a soft, uncovered insulation blanket. Record all layers between the chamber and the exterior surface.
Do not replace the base coat with a finish coat
Heat Resistant Plaster is used for a specific smooth finish on suitable hot surfaces. Its described role is different from a coarser base coat. Do not assume weatherproof application of the entire set based on the temperature of a single component.
Check thicknesses, substrate preparation, and the readiness of the previous layer. Adhesive, primer, putty, and paint must be selected according to the actual location. A random decorative coating does not provide confirmation that edges and joints will remain protected from precipitation.
Inspect areas through which water may enter
Pay special attention to the termination at the base, top edges, and contact with metal. A flat surface may appear correct, while a small open detail directs water to adjacent layers. Determine drainage and protection according to the oven design.
Leave room in the April schedule for setting, required drying, and protection of fresh work. Take photos before applying the next layer. In case of later delamination, they will help assess whether the problem originated from the substrate, the material connection, or an exposed enclosure edge.
